Why the new FastTrack Kayak Paddles So Well
The Shape Says it All
- Drop Stitch Outside Keel at bow rides over waves, providing bouyancy and constrains the natural yaw of an inflatable kayak
- Removeable Rear Skeg keeps kayak headed on its intended course. Can be removed for whitewater use.
- Super rigid drop stitch floor increases the overall rigidity of the kayak and creates side chines under the pontoons that enhance overall paddling performance.

Valid through 2/29/2012
Crystal can stand-up and paddle...I can't! We like the new bow and stern bungee storage.
As passionate paddlers, Crystal and I were Sea Eagle's first customers for the newly introduced Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack. Early reports from Sea Eagle indicated that the FastTrack would have a lot of the benifits we look for in a kayak.Namely speed, stability, and light weight. We were about to find out!
We were impressed as always with Sea Eagle's robust hull packaging. The two sturdy boxes that FedEx delivered to our boathouse were no exception and boy was the box holding the FastTrack hull light!
The FastTrack arrives with the removable drop stitch floor already installed so the assembly process was as easy as 1-2-3!
1. Take the boat out of the boat carry bag and unroll.
2. Attach the thermo plastic skeg to two rear receiver pins built into the rear of the boat. (Inflation locks the skeg to the boat.)
3. Inflate!
That's it!
A properly rigged inflatable can be
car-topped safely.
After inflation we could hardly wait to get it out on the lake to see just how fast and how stable it is. Our first test was on a very windy Watson Lake near Prescott, AZ. Kayaking on windy days is never fun...until the FastTrack! What a kayak! The ultra-light 385 was easy for this old man to move to the launch point and then even easier to climb aboard for a short solo jaunt. The combination of small 10" tubes and a perfectly flat rigid drop-stitch floor allowed me to easily hop in. Sea Eagle President Cecil Hoge had told me the FastTrack was stable...boringly stable, to quote. Boy was he right...except the boring part. The FastTrack was far from boring! Fast, and surprisingly nimble...but not boring.. With GPS verified sprint speeds close to 5 mph the FastTrack was 20% faster than I could turn out on our Sea Eagle PaddleSki 435. And, oh, so easy to paddle and turn. Most importantly, the FastTrack paddled into the wind better than any inflatble kayak I've ever paddled. Head winds normally cut hull speed by 50% with most kayaks but not with the top secret Sea Eagle hull design. But back to stability. Round bottom kayaks aren't supposed to be stable but the Sea Eagle's combination of the bulbous bow keel, rear rudder, clever bottom chine's, and other patented secrets combined to make the Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack as stable as my Sea Eagle catamaran kayak the Sea Eagle 435. Crystal even found it easy to stand despite the choppy lake conditions.
Weight savings in Sea Eagle's ultra-light kayaks came about with the introduction of a new ultra-light type 70 fabric in non- critical areas. In the case of the Sea Eagle 435, which was Sea Eagle's first ultra-light kayak re-design, boat weight went from 57 pounds down to 42 pounds. Don't look for these ultra-light materials to be introduced in the Sea Eagle 380 however. The expedition grade Explorer series will stay the same other than the remarkable new drop stitch floors now available in the 380 and soon the 420. The overbuilt rugged Sea Eagle Explorer kayaks are still the wisest choice for heavy rock-strewn class IV whitewater enthusiasts. Not into these extremes? The recreational level Sea FastTrack 385 kayak with a lower class III whitewater rating is the best choice.
Tim & Crystal
PS. The 385 FastTrack will be a little tight for two over size paddlers or paddlers needing storage for a weeks worth of camping gear.Thankfully the well designed front and rear spray decks now include built in bungee cords which securely handled our week-end's worth of gear handily.
Whenever possible we transport our Sea Eagle to the launch point.
Read our notes on how we do it.

...and now a customer review

Eric paddling his FastTrack in Deer Isle, Maine
Hi Tim, Crystal,
We just got back from Deer Isle, Maine and, as promised, here are a few pictures of the 385FT in action. We mostly did tandem but had no one to shoot the two of us. But my wife Mary got some nice ones of me flying solo and those I've attached. (Sidenote: although both seats are shown in the photos, I've got the front seat in the proper position (middle) for single paddler.)
Kayak peformance was outstanding! She inflated and deflated in less than five minutes. Stability was real nice. Getting in and out was done quickly and fearlessly. I ran into some really choppy conditions (two footers for this part of the world) a mile or so out on my first day out, and I was amazed and really pleased by how well she handled the waves no matter which direction/angle I approached them. I actually enjoyed plummetting into the troughs not to mention smashing perpendicular through them! The latter enjoyment's got something to do with that "cool ocean spray splashing over the bow and into one's face".
Tracking was better than expected with yaw almost non-existent. We found that very important in maintaining speed and when we wanted to kick her into a higher gear, so to speak. The seats were nice and comfortable. Thanks for the "do not totally inflate" tip for the seats. Definitely a rule to follow for comfort.
The last day on the water as we were returning from our final excursion, some dude and his wife yelled to us from the beach and asked if what we were in was "one of them there inflatable boats". After giving that an "affirmative", I proceeded to channel you (!) and give the couple a good five-minute sales pitch. Told them about all of the above and then added another important piece of the puzzle: the portability factor and how light the 385 was. They had an 85-pound tandem and were looking to go our route with the inflatable. Don't be surprised if you get an e-mail from somebody from Maine!
Complaints? That's too strong a word. Rather, call what I'm about to say a "Comment": As stated, this puppy moved nicely through the water. Especially when things were calm or the wind was at our backs. But when we ran into a head wind, we noticed it didn't slice through it as well as, say, a more-streamlined "real" kayak. She slowed down and came to a stop in a hurry if we stopped paddling under these conditions. Totally expected. Simple physics/aerodynamics or whatever you call it. At our age (50s), we'll take the trade off between this minor situation and the 385's better stability/light-weight portability any day of the week.
Okay, I must've drunk too much java before this post because I'm yakking away here. So let me stop, but lastly let me just add: Thank you Tim and Crystal. Thank you for this kayak and thank you for the top notch customer service! Enjoy the pictures of the 385FT in action against the backdrop of some beautiful Maine scenery as well as whoever that handsome stud is who's riding it!
Eric Trinkle
We have been hearing from customers who are having trouble choosing between the Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack and the Sea Eagle 380x Explorer. Like Mark.
Q.
Tim,
I have question which is more opinion than fact-oriented. I’m trying to decide between a Sea Eagle 380x Explorer IK and the Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack. If I understand correctly, they are essentially the same boat, but the Sea Eagle 380 is made of heavier material, the upside being more durability, and the downside more weight (by about 12 #) Is this correct? If so, do you have an opinion on the relative merits of these two boats? My wife and I would mostly be using the boat to paddle on smaller Michigan rivers, inland lakes, shorter paddles on the Great Lakes on quieter days. BUT, we do travel out west a fair amount, and we do enjoy the fun of bouncing through some Class III (MAYBE Class IV) whitewater every now and then, just for fun, not transporting any gear. What do you think? Thanks for any input.
Mark
A.
Mark...
Here are a few more facts before we get to opinion.
The Sea Eagle 380 bottom is the only part of the boat made of heavier material. The Sea Eagle 380 also has 15% larger tube size, longer interior space, and a wider stance being 3" wider. The 380 also has a kick in the front and back which creates a rocker shaped bottom when viewed lengthwise from the side. The kick allows for quicker turning in whitewater. The Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack is flat from end to end when viewed from the side which puts more of the Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack‘s bottom on the waterline which increases the Sea Eagle 385's tracking and speed across the water. Time will tell if the Sea Eagle 380 Explorer is more durable then the Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack but in my opinion the 380's thicker floor material is overdoing it.
In my opinion the bigger-tubed deeper-seated Sea Eagle 380 would be the kayak I would rather be paddling on choppy Lake Michigan and on any Class III or Class IV whitewater. My personal paddling on the other hand is all flatwater on inland lakes and rivers and my choice would be the Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack. In fact, the FastTrack was my choice as I now carry a 385 FastTrack on board our motorhome.. This old man likes the 385's smaller tubes for far easier entry/exit and I really appreciate the cutting edge speed and tracking of the 385 FastTrack. The Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack is a sleek racing bike and the Sea Eagle 380 Explorer a tough-as-a-goat mountain bike.
Happy Kayaking,
Tim

Tim...can I stand up in one of your kayaks.
Yep...both the FastTrack and the Explorer kayaks!

This video demonstrates how the dropstitch floor in the 380x Explorer kayak (in addition to other models) makes the boat rigid enough to be used as a Stand Up Paddleboard.
Our NEW Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack was born to explore large lakes with secluded islands, long meandering rivers, intimate salt marshes with winding water passages, inland bays, hidden ocean coves. The secret of this new design is the outside drop stitch keel in the bow and the large skeg in the stern. These features combine to limit the “yaw” (the sideways movement when using a double end paddle) of this kayak and create unparalleled “bite” on the water.
When the paddler takes a paddle stroke on the left or right side, the drop stitch keel in bow acts as a block against the natural yaw of the kayak while the skeg keeps the kayak tracking forward. This “bite” propels the kayaker forward more efficiently because the natural yaw of the kayak is contained - resulting in greater speed and a straighter course - in other words, the fastest way is the straightest line.

A very important feature is the high pressure drop stitch floor. It provides rock solid rigidity to the whole structure of the kayak making it very responsive to paddle strokes. The drop stitch floor even makes this kayak rigid enough to be used as a Standup Paddle Board. The Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack Kayak can be paddled for many miles and many hours with little effort. It will go straight in whatever direction you want and it will hold a course no matter at what angle you are paddling in relation to the wind. This new design is truly a breakthrough in the evolution of inflatable kayaks.

plus an editorial...and a promise!
Sea Eagle requires from their dealers Minimum Advertised Prices (MAP) that are consistent with Sea Eagle's company website prices. The guidelines are simple. Anything below these prices is illegal.
All dealers are supposed to follow these guidelines but there continue to be several shopping sites that openly and cosistently violate Sea Eagle's MAP policy and advertise priices below the MAP minimums. These shopping sites are very big multi-million dollar companies who wouldn’t know a boat from a bullet or a kayak from a Kleenex but they'll sell anything and use their clout to drown the little guys and the Mom and Pops of the retail world. Most violators are millions bigger than even Sea Eagle so Sea Eagle is very careful that they don't antagonize these big guys and tend to turn their back on the illegal practices of these multi-million violators like Overstorck, Amazon, and DirectBoats to name a few..
Which brings me to our little Mom and Pop boat company Inflatable Boats 4 Less. Mom (Crystal) and Pop (Tim) love boating, and Sea Eagle inflatable Boats in particular, and devote much of their time keeping you informed about the benefits of Sea Eagle boats, kayaks, and accessories. Our prices have always been the lowest allowed by Sea Eagle's MAP policy and our service has been voted the highest, as thousands will attest. Our fact- filled website wins compliments and awards and provides you information you just can't find anywhere else.
That being said, after visiting our website and getting to know us if you feel compelled to order from us but arey tempted to buy from an illegal shopping site we just want to remind you once again of our Low Price Guarantee.

Deluxe or Pro...oh my! Which one to order?
I know..! I know..! You've done your research and you're itchin' to order but now you're wondering which seat/paddle package to choose. Crystal and I have a Sea Eagle kayak and we choose the Deluxe Package. Here's why.......
We find that the Tall Back Seats found in the Pro Package are impossible to rig without customer installed D-Rings and even after installing additional D-Rings(it's easy) the Tall Back Seats are prone to collapsing forward or backward!. Even when rigged correctly the TBS rigging surrounds you making it difficult to enter and exit the kayak. The TBS's 1/4" too thin, too hard seat cushions are uncomortable and also positions the paddler too low in the kayak. In the case of the 435 this makes it difficult to swing your legs around to exit the kayak, and, in the case of our sit-in kayaks, namely the FastTrack and Explorer kayaks, this creates a lack of hip room for all but the skinniest paddler. The 4" thick inflateble seat on the Deluxe Kayak Seat positions you higher and positions the paddlers hips above the narrowest area between the roll of the rounded side chambers allowing for adequate hip room in all our sit-in kayaks. The Deluxe Kayak Seat's 4" thick seat bottom is also much more comfortable and keeps the paddlers above any pooling water making for a drier ride and, best of all, allows just as much back support as the Tall Back Seat. Lastly the higher seating position makes paddling easier and makes for better sight fishing...or fish peeping.
Next the Paddles. How much better is that AB4O Pro Paddle?
The AB30 Deluxe Paddle and AB40 Pro Paddle are almost exactly the same length. Laying one on top of the other the length difference is infinitesimal...less than an inch. The Quality and Effectiveness of the AB30 equals the AB40. We like the AB30 Drip Cups better. If it sounds like we are steering you to the much less expensive Deluxe Package - you're right!
But those stow bags sound nice...
We also feel that the not so dry - bow and stern stow bags - are gimmicky and interfere with the bow and stern bungy c we use standard after-market dry bags instead.

"We spent about three hours at the springs, seeing everything from huge old cows with scars across their backs from boat propellers, to babies nursing from their mothers. One of the volunteers said this baby is an orphan, and they’re watching it. Sometimes one of the cows will adopt an orphan and allow it to nurse. If that doesn’t happen, authorities will remove it to a refuge where it will be cared for until it can go out on its own".
