Tim's Top Ten Sea Eagle Boat Picks

Sea Eagle's offerings include 19 different models with each model offered with many different option packages. Choosing the right boat with the right options for your needs can be confusing.

The InflatableBoats4Less.com staff is constantly testing and evaluating every product offered by Sea Eagle so that we can give advice and reviews based on our experiences. You can find us out on the water every day in a new kayak, or fishing boat,or motoring in a sport boat. or trying the latest model PaddleSki with a Sail Rig. Testing and evaluating is a tough, unending job... but somebody has to do it!

The boats listed below are Sea Eagles best…in my opinion! These opinions are based on distilled feedback from hundreds of customers and balanced by using each and every one of these boats myself. Are you thinking of a kayak that you can also use for serious fishing? I think I know which one will work best, the 435 PaddleSki which is our favorite Sea Eagle! But I'm not the only fan of the 435 PaddleSki...check out TackleTour.com for their review of the PaddleSki as well as a review of the Sea Eagle SE8 , and the Sea Eagle's new FoldCat fishing boat...all three are Tim's Best Picks!

Serious solo whitewater enthusiasts…take a look at the 340x Explorer. If you have a young family and need room for four and love to paddle, fish, and frolic, and want a safe and stable boat, take a  look at the new 420x Explorer. My favorite in the tough Explorer series is the 380x Explorer.  Sea Eagle's Explorer kayaks are true expedition quality kayaks chosen by adventurers knowing that if their kayak didn't make it back...neither would they! All three make Tim's Best list. The severe rocker-shape of the bow and stern on the Explorer kayaks make them very maneuverable and your best choice for a whitewater kayak. The PaddleSki is our most stable kayak and a long waterline contributes to our top glide ration making the PaddleSki easy to paddle and fast...! The PaddleSki is Tim's best pick for flat-water kayaking.

to test a 330. That's the 330 peeking out of the truck shell...?

Low budget paddlers take a look at the Sea Eagle SE330. The tough little Sea Eagle 330 is a ball to use and our top selling boat.

Tim's Best award winner is our exclusive Sea Eagle 330 Boat'N'Bag special for just $279.

So you want a high-quality all-around boat, small enough to carry in your RV but big enough to handle rough water, I like the 8.10.

Is our favorite Sport Runabout and Tim's Best 12.6SR big enough…small enough… fast enough…tough enough…. blank enough. I can fill in the blanks.

Still confused…drop me a line or give me a call.

We know the Sea Eagle inflatable boats offer the best combination of price, warranty, and qualityused sea eagle inflatable boats  available anywhere. Period!

The New FoldCat 375fc

"From your car trunk ... to fishing machine!

IN JUST 5 MINUTES!"

The FoldCat 375fc is one blockbuster of a boat...! Sea Eagle President Cecil Hoge has been busy developing this boat for over four years and finally it's ready. The Sea Eagle R&D warehouse in Port Jefferson is filled with prototypes that were too short, too long, too this, or too that, but the production model FoldCat 375fc recently released is just right...believe me! The FoldCat 375fc is a Tim's Best pick.

InflatableBoats4Less received the first FoldCat 375fc, of the first 50 produced, a little over a year ago...just in time for a big RV show. Booth set-up procedures are hectic at RV shows with never enough time to get it all done. The last thing I needed was a complicated new product to set up. I was in for a pleasant surprise...!

Box number one was the biggest and heaviest at just a little over 80 pounds. I opened this box to reveal the completely assembled FoldCat including the floorboards. I hooked up the pump and a few minutes later the boat hull with aluminum floors is ready. The second box included all the hardware to turn this boat into a comfortable fishing machine including comfortable looking hard plastic sturdy seats, a pedestal for the rear seat, the motor mount, quick releases for the 2 seats, risers for the oars, and four rod holders. It took about 20 minutes and a philips screw driver to permanently mount the seat quick releases and the flush mounts for the rod holders to the pre-drilled aluminum floor steps. Another few minutes and the seats were slid into the seat mounts, the rod holders popped into the flush mounts, and the motor mount was installed on the stern. The third box had the two-piece oars and oarlocks. In all the FoldCat 375fc was ready to show 39 minutes, first time, out of these 3 shipping boxes. We were allotted 5 of the first 50 and sold out early to the eager space conscious RV 'ers attending the show. Many show have followed and our set-up time is down to just a few minutes from two storage bags to a ready-for-the-water FoldCat sitting proudly upon our display stand!

It's over two years later and we have tested, talked, reviewed, sold, and loved the FoldCat every day from day one.

By the time you've reached this web site you're probably overwhelmed with slick advertising, wonderful testimonials, and vivid videos. Can it all be true..? Yep...it's all true...the award winning FoldCat is everything they say it is and more. What are you waiting for...?

Sea Eagle SE330 Inflatable Canoe

Our top seller, the Sea Eagle 330 almost didn't make this list. After all, the 330 is short and narrow and made from our unsupported 33-mil PolyKrylar (a very thick super-vinyl) material not the bulletproof supported fabric PVC that our high line boats are constructed with.

I know that I like to take the Sea Eagle 330 out to remote high mountain fishing lakes. But gosh, I’m an experienced paddler (I really do say gosh). Now, as I think about it, the 26 pound SE330 was the boat that I carried a quarter mile through the toolies to explore some Colorado River backwater. Sure, I like it but this isn’t a serious kayak…is it?

Then I remembered stories I heard at our display booth from happy Sea Eagle 330 owners. Lot’s of stories! Stories attesting to the 330’s durability and lovability! Stories from customers on the north side of middle-age who never paddled before they bought their 330 and how they loved it! Stories from experienced paddlers who loved their 330 Boat-N-Bag and it’s amazing stability. Our eBay feedback scores are bolstered by scads of happy 330 owners.

Well you just can’t fight success so the amazing little 330 made “Tim’s Top Picks!” Take a look at the Sea Eagle 330 eBay Boat'N'Bag special at $279...it’s outfitted the way I like it.

We feel the 330, inch for inch, pound for pound, is the best value we offer.

In keeping with our honest- is-best policy, the Sea Eagle 330 is not the best choice if you’re looking for a flat water-touring kayak to cover many miles. For that you need to spend more bucks. The 330 has a short water line and handles more like a short freestyle hard-kayak on flat water. Short quick strokes with the paddle will overcome the 330’s tendency to wander.

Sea Eagle President Cecil Hoge just announced the welcome addition of a longer Sea Eage 330 which will be called the Sea Eagle SE370.

Sneak Peek of the new Sea Eagle 370

I don't have all the specs but here are the important differences. The 370 will be 16" longer and made of the thicker tougher 38 mill PolyKrylar vinyl found in our supersize SE9. Pricing will be $50 higher than the 330 pricing and the hill weight will increase 6 pounds to a still manageable 32 pounds. The longer supersize 370 will resolve a legroom issue created by the new Jet Boat Seats Deluxe Kayak Seats which takes about 6" more of the valuable interior space of the 330 making the 330 a little cramped for oversize passengers. The thicker material will also mitigate the tendency of the Sea Eagle 330 to taco (wrinkle in the middle with 250 pound plus paddlers). We can hardly wait to get our hands on the new 370 for on the water testing. We think the longer stronger 370 will pass muster and be a future Tim's Top Pick!

The Sea Eagle 330 Canoe/Kayak...perfect for a quiet bay...

yet tough enough for Class III Whitewater.

Sea Eagle Explorer 380x Inflatable Kayak

The Sea Eagle Explorer kayaks are all true world-class kayaks. They are constructed of our best fabric, have a double floor system, and are self sea eagle inflatable kayaksbailing. There aren't’t any better inflatable kayaks out there, just more expensive ones!

My top pick of the three Explorer models is the top selling Explorer 380x.

The 11’1” Explorer 340x is a great solo kayak that can hold two, if they’re short. But even if you are short, spend another $50 and get the 12’6” Explorer 380x. You have another 17inches of just-in-case room and the 380x has an extra 150-pound capacity. I think it’s better to have-it-and-not-need-it particularly when it doesn't’t cost you anything in handling and actually stores in the same amount of room. The 380x also makes a dandy solo boat.

The big 14-foot Explorer 420x is really overkill unless you want a boat that can handle 2 or three and maybe 4. The bigger the boat the bigger the sacrifice in handling though and this is a long kayak to move through technical whitewater solo.

Whichever you pick, do buy the optional Directional Stabilizer. The Directional Stabilizer will eliminate about 80% of the yaw when you’re using your Explorer in flat water. Yaw is the tendency of a buoyant inflatable kayak to zigzag across flat water. Sea Eagle has just come out with a much-needed improvement to the Directional Stabilizer and all Explorers are now being shipped with the improved mounting bracket on the boat.

Sea Eagle PaddleSki Catamaran Kayak

Sea Eagle PaddleSki catamarans are unique to Sea Eagle. Developed by Sea Eagle president Cecil Hogue to combine the speed and stability of the Hobie Cats he sailed on Long Island Sound with Sea Eagle’s legendary Explorer kayaks. The result is Sea Eagle’s fastest, safest, driest, and most stable kayak. You can actually stand on the PaddleSki. I’ve been unable to tip one even after years of sailing them (sail kits are available), paddling them including class 4 whitewater, rowing them (rowing kit available), and fishing from them (available side motor mount for an electric trolling motor or center-mount for a small outboard). I don’t recommend the PaddleSki for the whitewater above class 3 however. If you’re primarily a whitewater fanatic, stick with the Explorer kayaks but if your interests are flat water paddling on lakes, rivers, and oceans, mixed with a few class 2 whites the PaddleSki is still your best choice.

Each year our Sea Eagle PaddleSki 435 sales, as a percentage of our total PaddleSki sales, continue to increase as more and more customers realize that the PaddleSki is much more that just a kayak and plan on motoring, or sailing, or rowing and choose the PaddleSki 435 for this reason. We now recommend the Sea Eagle PaddleSki 435 with the Deluxe option group as Tim's Best Pick. The newly designed Jet-Boat Bucket Seats included in the Deluxe Option group use more real estate in the seating area of the PaddleSki's and make it a tight fit for two

tall paddlers in the smaller Sea Eagle 395 PaddleSki Deluxe.

We now carry only the Sea Eagle 435 Deluxe for personal use while traveling.

Long before I was a Sea Eagle dealer I was a PaddleSki owner and continue to be it’s biggest fan!

Sea Eagle Fisher/Tender/Run About

We have been urging Sea Eagle for over 4 years to give us a high-pressure air-floor, all-around RV friendly boat and finally here it is. The secret to this 59 pound boat is the new

high pressure air floor. You have a nearly rigid full length floor providing amazing stability which even allows you to stand and cast. Sweet..!

!

Here's the 8.10 shown without seats. The secret is the high pressure air floor shown inflated and uninflated

The Sea Eagle 8.10 RV Dingy is both “big enough” and “small enough!”

Big enough to carry four people across the lake. Big enough to allow room for three to fish comfortably. Really big 18 ” tubes to keep choppy waves out of your lap. Big enough to hang a 5 HP motor on the back to take you quickly to the next fishing hole.

At the same time the 8.10 is small enough to handle easily with only a 59 pound hull weight. Toss it up on the roof rack and hop from lake to lake. The 8.10 is small enough when rolled to toss in the trunk or slip into the cargo bay of our motorhome with room to spare. Small enough to handle a light weight trolling motor for those small lakes and bays we love to fish and loaf. With the high pressure air floor set up time is cut in half to just 10 minutes.

Here's the 8.10 ready to stow in the bay complete with 2 seats and the floor...all in this one bag...!

Sea Eagle Sport Runaboutsea eagle inflatable pontoon boats

I’ve probably spent more time in a Sea Eagle Sport Runabout than any other Sea Eagle inflatable boat. The Sport Runabouts with their big tubes and stable ride are my choice when fishing or playing on the water. Hang a big outboard on the transom and the inflatable V-keeled Sport Runabouts can go! The big Sea Eagle 12.6 SR and Sea Eagle 14SR can actually pull a knee-boarder, tuber, or skier with either a 30HP or 40 HP outboard.

I have used a Sea Eagle 10.6SR with a lightweight Nissan 9.8 4-stroke and run, fast, all weekend on a 3.1 tank of gas. The 10.6 is fine for 2 or 3 but gets a little crowded with four and won’t plane when you approach 500 lbs. payload. Pick the Nissan 15 hp motor if you want to plane 4 or better yet move up to the 12.6SR and a 18HP Nissan Outboard.

I did...and now after three years of extensive use the Sea Eagle 12.6 is Tim's Best Pick in the Sport Runabout model lineup. I especially like the way the big pointed-bow design knocks the waves aside while plowing through heavy waters. This is a big tough roomy boat with amazing stability in all kinds of water.

Do order the Sea Eagle Dolly Wheels so you can move this big guy down to the water solo.

The last Sea Eagle Sport Runabout model is the 9.2 SR. The 9.2 is a little crowded with its normal compliment of one captain and one crew member along with coolers, fishing gear, etc.  it's a good idea to pack light.

Sea Eagle SE6, SE8, and SE9 Fishing Boats

In this series of inflatable's are the Sea Eagle 6, Sea Eagle 8, and Sea Eagle 9. Unlike the Sport Runabouts above, the model numbers here don’t represent length. The SE6 is 8’8”, the SE8 9’7”, and the SE9 is 11’. This is not the only difference. These boats are constructed of our unsupported PolyKrylar heavy gauge super-vinyl and therefore are much softer. Any of these boats make great river rafts and you can also add floorboards, seats, and motor-mounts and they become inexpensive fishing boats…fishing boats for under $500!

While I’I've sold many of this series of Sea Eagle inflatable boats they are the only boats that I’I've ever received complaints on. Not many, but in the interest of presenting an accurate review of all that's good in Sea Eagle boats I must also point out the warts. Some have been disappointed in the time required to install the floors, seats, and motor mounts while others found these hard parts difficult to store. Unfortunately if you only have $500 to spend this is the only way to go and I have many, many more fans of these boats than detractors. I recommend the Sea Eagle SE9 Fisherman's Dream in this series of boats as Tim's Best Pick. Only $50 separates the SE8 and the SE9 but that $50 buys you a thicker 38 mill PolyKrylar and another 17” of length.
