The Sea Eagle 395 Paddle Ski is Sea Eagle’s safest, most stable, driest, fastest, most maneuverable, most versatile kayak! I’ve had a love affair with the 395 Paddle Ski from the moment I opened the box on my new 395 Paddle Ski in 1998. I followed the well-written directions and soon had inflated the 13 foot two person kayak that was almost as rigid as my 16’ aluminum canoe; the canoe I couldn’t take with me in my motorhome …! The first time on the water I was amazed at the stability. My wife walked...actually walked across the cat-hull to her position in front! On the water the 395 Paddle Ski was fast…surprisingly fast. We were hooked! Later we popped the 2 Halkey Roberts valves, waited two minutes, rolled the 395 Paddle Ski like a sleeping bag and soon had the nifty catamaran kayak back in the carry bag it arrived in. Yes…it really does fit back in the bag.

There are two models of the Paddle Ski. The 395 Paddle Ski and the 435 Paddle Ski. Stay with the 395 Paddle Ski unless your height, weight, or cargo carrying needs dictate a larger boat like the 14’ 435 Paddle Ski. I often paddle in the morning when the waters are glassy smooth and then later sail my 395 Paddle Ski in the gusty afternoon winds. If you plan on sailing…sailing a lot... with two people…the roomier 435 is a better choice.

SeaEagle 395ps Tracks Straighter, Paddles Faster

Because there is far less surface area (only the pontoons are in the water), the drag is greatly reduced and the kayak goes faster. Another outstanding characteristic of this design is that the rear pontoons point downward, creating a keel-like effect which makes this model track far straighter. This model holds one or two passengers and gear. This model is great for wilderness paddling or sea kayaking. The two pontoons literally glide over the water and make paddling for hours almost effortless.

And even though the paddler sits up higher, this boat is more stable because of the wide catamaran stance on the water. The aluminum yokes hold the catamaran tubes straight and steady when inflated and roll up with the kayak when deflated.

Since this review, Sea Eagle has added a center-mount motor-mount option, which will take a small outboard up to 3-hp. Nice idea, but I prefer the peace and quiet of a stealthy Minn Kota Endura 30# thrust electric trolling motor!
